As people’s living standard and economic continue to rise, the transportationbusiness for passenger and commodity flourishes, however, accident occursfrequently. As the large size and mass of heavy commercial vehicle, once involved inan accident, it would cause vehicle damage and casualties. Therefore, improvingpassive safety of heavy commercial vehicle becomes essential.The new edition regulation ECE R29-03describes the requirement for the cabstructure of commercial vehicle.The domestic rule GB26512-2011for commercialvehicle cab is identical with the old edition regulation ECE R29-02.However,thecurrent European regulation ECE R29-03is more stricter than ECE R29-02,for thereason that A pillar impact test and the20angle pendulum impact test are added,andthe energy in frontal pendulum impact is raised.The exported commercial vehiclefrom our country will be tested based on ECE R29-03. It is required to conductdesign and improvement for the domestic commercial vehicle which has passed thetest of ECE R29-02to meet the demand of ECE R29-03.Furthemore,the badcompatibility between heavy commercial vehicle and small passenger car is also themain reason that causes traffic accident casualities,owing to that the mass betweenthe two cars is significantly different,once accident happended,the large amount ofcrash energy would directly effect on the passenger compartment of the smallpassenger car,which cause the serious injury to the head and neck of thepassenger.Consequently,the front underrun protective device regulation ECE R93and the rear underrun protective device regulation ECE R58are drafted.Supported by Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Department projectnamed “Research on the key technology for passive safety of heavy commercialvehicle”, for the first time in China this paper researches on structural design for commercial vehicle cab based on ECE R29-03regulation which is more stricter thandomestic rule GB26512-2011,and proposes a series of structural design and improvemethods which can meet the demands of regulation.Meanwhile this paper conductsimproved design and virtual validation for the truck protective device.This paper chooses a heavy domestic truck as researching object. By utilizingCAE led design method this paper researches the inspection focus and correspondingmeasures of commercial vehicle cab based on the new edition regulation ECER29-03.Regarding to the safety problem in frontal pendulum impact test and frontalA pillar impact test for the truck,this paper proposes some structural improvedmethods that meet regulation ECE R29-03,such as the design of a new type frontsuspension,design for energy-absorbed structure based on substep topologyoptimization and the added strengthened glue for improving the A pillar stiffnessetc,and virtual test validation is conducted.In addition,considering the safety ofpassenger car based on regulation ECE R93and crash compatibility this paperdesigns a new front underrun protective device and verifies the validity by simulationcalculation.And based on regulation ECE R58,considering economic andcraft,lightweight proposal for rear underrun protective device is proposed,and virtualvalidating test is conducted.This paper offers some reference concerning the improved method for passivesafety of commercial vehicle to the corresponding designers.
