In recent years, with the development of economy, and the improvementof people’s living standard, the number of registered vehicles has increasedremarkably. But meanwhile, it also brings more and more crash accidents, whichgradually becomes a public nuisance. So the improvement of vehicle safety, especially for passengers and driver, has become more and more significant.Through the study of the vehicle crash process, the direct injury ismainly caused by “the second collision” between passengers and the vehicleinterior. At present, all countries in the world have their own safetyregulations, and New Car Assessment Program, NCAP for short, which has highrecognition, is widely accepted. In China, it is C-NCAP.Getting higher grade of C-NCAP has become a goal which the majorautomotive manufacturers pursue. For this, the contents of this thesis include:1. Description of C-NCAP scoring method in detail.2. Elaboration of “the first collision” and “the second collision”which causes injury to passengers directly, and simple introduction of relatedparts contained in restraint system.3.Introduction of MADYMO used in optimization, principle of sled testand real vehicle test, and giving an example to describe how to formulate theoptimization solution in restraint system, without changing body, to achievefive-star in C-NCAP text, based on combination of simulation, sled and realvehicle test. Thus it can be seen that the better restraint system has a very crucialeffect in safety for passengers. Without the obvious design defects of thevehicle body, the optimization of restraint system is a better method to gethigher grade of C-NCAP. Comparing with the optimization of the body, no matterconsidering about the cost of investment, or research and development cycle, the optimization of restraint system is a short way to improve C-NCAP gradewhich saves expense and shortens the cycle time.
