Single-span frame structure is a structure form which is commonly used in primary and secondary school buildings. With the seismic resistance category of primary and secondary schools improved in our relevant codes. Improving seismic performance has become the focus of people’s attention. Many programs used to reinforce or reform have been raised constantly. How to adopt a reasonable, effective and economical means to reinforce the single-span structure has currently become one of the difficult problems needed to be sovled in engineering sector.This paper firstly compared 《Code for seismic design of buildings》GB50011-2001(hereinafter referred as "10Code") with《Code for seismic design of buildings》GBJ-89(hereinafter referred as "89Code") from the relevant provisions and combined with "10Code" to judge the exsisting inadequacies in accordance with "89Code" in single-span framework. For a practical single-span frame structure engineering as a example, we proposed three reinforcement schemes, such as changed into double cross, additional shear wall changed into less shear wall frame structure and frame structure. Weused commonly used calculation software to calculate and preferred the final choice to change the single-span frame structure into frame structure as the best reinforcement scheme. In order to further study the reinforcing effect of the shear wall to a single-span frame structure, we used a finite element software which is an analysis method based on collapse rate to study the mechanism of the collapse and the collapse resistance in reinforcement before and after.The result of our research shows:After reinforcement, the structure changed into frame structure, less shear wall frame structure, double-cross structure can make the building deformation, displace, axial compression be well controlled. In particular, the seismic performance and the collapse resistance properties of the structure changed into frame structure are superior to the single-span frame structure. Calculation shows:the collapse resistance rate decreased from28.7%to4.5%and the effect is significant. After it was changed into small shear wall frame structure, a small amount of shear walls can only assist framework to resist lateral deformation, but they can not be used to as the first seismic line to defense against earthquake. The reinforcement of some frame columns is not enough. After changed into double-cross frame, the reinforcement of frame columns and cantileverd beam has been more than original structure. But some columns and beams still need to be reinforced after adding frame columns, so it will have a larger workload.
