The proposed airport is a key project finacially supported by state that located inMiao and Dong autonomous prefecture in southeast Guizhou, which is positioned asan regional routes airport for folklore tour and have great social significance andeconomic benefits. Affected by the geological formation and transformation, the studyarea is characterized by its ragged topography, high development degree of Karst, wide distribution of red weathering crusts, crush rocks environment, etc. Theengineering geological problems such as Karst, earth cavity, collapse, swelled earthand slope stability are quite common in this area. Under these bad geologic conditonsof the regional geological background, the suitable research of the proposed site isextremly important to the airport’s construction. On the understanding of the research, evaluation and processing method towardsthe related engineering geological problems at home and abroad, this thesis evaluatedthe proposed airport site’s suitability based on the data and information that gatheredduring the field investigation. By the evaluation on the site suitable about the seismiceffection, bearing capacity of natural foundation soil, nonuniformity of foundation,Karst and earth cavity’s stability, differential weathering of rock mass, slope stability, red clay soil’s character and corrosive property of water and earth, the conclusionsbelow are drawn.(1) The proposed site is located in a trigonal fault block, which is separated bythree fractures that trend towards northeast, approximately north-south and nearlywest-east. There is no fracture and fault in the block and the three fractures are notactive belt since quaternary, which indicates that the site is stable region and issuitable for the aiport.(2) The gneiss in the natural foundation is mainly composed by Quaternary red clay and Cambrian dolomite, whose bearing capacity are preferably and is quitesuitable as the natural foundation support layer of the airport.(3) The natural foundation of the airport has significant nonuniformity in bothinline and crossline direction. This will mainly be reflected in the total settlement’sdifferent and the degree of consolidation variation along time history, which has greatinflucence to the suitability of the airport site.(4) Except for the earth cavity’s collapse that may occurred in the Quaternary redclay, the subterranean Karst of the fied is the result of fossil Karst and which now hasinsufficient development condition, which means that in current and future period thepossibility that Karst cave might collapse on a large scale is pretty small. The site issuitable for the airport.(5) The influence of the differential weathering of rockmass to the site’ssuitability is mainly reflected in accelerating the cavity’s development in the zone ofweathering. Once the groundwater’s circulation system is blocked, it got nothing tothreat the site.(6) The outstanding performance of the slope stability problem is the naturalgneiss’ controling effect to failure mode of the filling slope in the natural slope andgully. When the gneis is in their normal state, the filling slope may fail in large-scaleslide and reduce the field’s suitability.(7) The engineering problems of red clay soil and corrosive property of waterand earth are less prominent in the field. It is suitable to the airport construction.
