Regional Expression Of Design On China Youth Hostels

Being geared to the need of young people, Youth Hostel Movement originated inthe European countries. As a form of containing education in amusement, YouthHostel can trace its history to100years ago, and an international alliance has been setup yet. China first introduced Youth Hostel in1988, in Guangdong province and thenentered the alliance. In tandem with the development of the China economy, thetourist industry has been accelerated. Youth Hostel takes the opportunity and thrives,and makes a network all over China in a mere decade. Youth Hostel is a branch ofhotel buildings, but it differs in contents, forms, purposes and requests with modernhotel buildings. For the moment, most of the Youth Hostels are remodeled andextended from the old buildings, with natures similar to the encouraged low-carbonconstructions in a certain sense. More over, besides the reconstruction, the YouthHostels inherit many merits of the traditional architecture and make themselves ofdistinct characteristics and brilliant locality.In this essay, the concepts of youth hostel and regionalism was analyzed, we gavethe general introduction to youth hotels’ images and expressed its sports ideaespecially introducing its history and recent development home and abroad. We triedto discuss development history of regionalism idea based on traditional regionalism,criticalness regionalism and new regionalism meanwhile the relationship betweenyouth hostel and regionalism design can be found. Then we classified the youth hostelmainly based on its building type and function service, what follows is the discussionof form and method of modern design by the way of comparison from design andother aspects. Finally, we analyzed the natural factors, culture factors and technicalfactors, which affect the regional buildings, summing up the features of regionalismbuildings. Based on my investigation of youth hostel, we expressed the regionalism ofyouth hostel building as the dialogue between youth hostel and local environment, theculture heritage which youth hostel carries, and the combination between youth hosteland local building materials and technical, and then we discussed the newdevelopment mode of youth hostel from regionalism aspect.
