With China’s economic development and urbanization, more and more peoplefrom rural areas are flocking into cities and urban housing is showing asuburbanization trend. While private cars are becoming common in ordinaryhouseholds and bring convenience to people, it has triggered a series of traffic andsocial problems. In particular, such problems as environment degradation, trafficcongestion, human indifference are seriously affecting life quality of people inresidential areas. This paper aims to design research and analyze user-friendlyresidential road traffic system, enrich related design theory and provide auser-friendly reference for future road transport system designs.This paper treats different aspects of user-friendly road system design in sixchapters:Chapter1introduces the background, objectives, significance, subject, methodand contents, etc.Chapter2shows residential road traffic system evolution both domestic andabroad, and sums up the foreign and domestic representative district road systemplanning and design theories depending on historical background and nationalneeds.This paper also gives an analysis of major problems of modern residentialtraffic, thereby opens the door for user-friendly design in the following chapters.Chapter3shows user-friendly district transport system design theory, and studiescharacteristics and apply circumstances of a variety of road traffic organization modes.Then this paper proposes a more new, humane mode of road traffic organization.Chapter4focuses on case studies. Such road cases as “human-vehicle nixed”,“human-vehicle separated”,“human-vehicle co-existence”, and the grid road systemsare analyzed to verify how user-friendly district road system design can do better.Chapter5hopes to advance strategies for user-friendly district road transportsystem design, and gives basic principles, design methods and goals for the futureplanning of district road traffic system.Chapter6summarizes the main findings and conclusions of this paper andsuggests possible directions and contents for future studies.
