In modern time, we could find the using of Li-battery in our daily life. Now, a large number oflithium-ion batteries are used in mobile phones, laptop computers, power tools, electric cars,especially, in the field of electric bicycles. It is replacing Lead-acid batteries and otherold-fashioned batteries by its advantages of energy-efficient, large capacity, lightweight, andenvironmental protection.However, its advantages are its disadvantages at the mean time: largecapacity and high voltage mean the big risk. So, when the battery manufacturers in the manufactureof batteries, they take many security measures in the battery. And when we charge or discharge thebatteries, we also must take some security measures to make sure the safely using of thebattery.This article described and designed an intelligent battery management protection system.The system is used on the electric bicycles, could achieve the functions of batteries’ charging anddischarging.Firstly, this article according to the specific requirements of the electric bike to lithium battery,analysis the battery’s charging and discharging the security requirements, proposes the functionsthat a battery management system should have. And then according to the requirements, theintelligent battery management protection system chooses the chip BQ77910as the control core.The whole system includes the hardware design section and software monitoring section. Finally,by actual test this article accomplishes the system.The results show that the lithium battery management system could achieve the protectionfunctions: battery under-voltage protection function, discharge over-current protection function,discharge and short-circuit protection function, charging short circuit protection function, batteryover-voltage protection function and thermal management function. The software monitoring parts,can real-time monitor the system’s status; modify the chip’s parameters according to the actualrequirements. This article designed the system feature rich, and it could greatly improve the electricbicycle’s lithium battery protection function.
