At present, serious power shortage has limited further growth of our national economy, and traditional transmission lines capacity-increase technologies have been limited seriously by long construction period, large cost, and transmission corridor acquisition difficulties. Therefore, the thorough research about improving the existing transmission capacity of transmission lines seems especially important. In this paper, the research status of transmission capacity-increase technology at home and abroad is analyzed. The characteristic of dynamic capacity-increase models are studied, and the overall design of dynamic capacity-increase monitoring system for high voltage transmission lines is introduced. At the monitoring terminal, high-voltage power induction device provides its power supply. This power supply system designed can effectively solve the problem of difficult getting electricity at monitoring terminal. The communication scheme of system is also studied. In this paper, the hardware design of monitoring terminal and host is presented in detail, and the software design of hardware drivers and function implementations of the system is completed. Finally, on the basis of dynamic capacity-increase theory, the computational methods of the actual current carrying capacity, maximum current carrying capacity and recessive capacity according to actual weather condition for transmission lines are studied. We also calculate the capacity-increase percentage of monitored lines combined with on-site test data. The results show that, the dynamic capacity-increase monitoring system for high voltage transmission lines can reflect the changes of actual current carrying capacity of transmission lines and provide an effective solution for dynamic capacity-increase theory.
