The DaMingGong national ruins park is a key project of urban constructionand great site protection in Xi’an. With the acceleration of urbanization in Xi’an,it will surely become an “urban central park” and will be the ecological bases forthe urban development, an important cultural symbol and a significant supportof the Ancient Capitals. Also, as an important driving force for the constructionof Xi’an to an international metropolis, this project will play an major role inhighlighting the urban characteristic of Xi’an. The improvement of theimprovement on the green space landscape of the DaMingGong National RuinsPark is not only an effective way to overcome the incomplete or not preciseproblems in planning and design of landscape or during the construction, butalso a necessary requirement of displaying ruins landscape scientifically, continuing the historic culture, emphasizing cultural theme, enhancing landscapefunction and meeting the needs of humanistic concerns.Based mainly on the theory of types of ruins park and landscape features in this paper, the current protection and construction were chosen as a key pointand the current landscape of DaMingGong ruins park was further analysed.Relevant theorys and techniques on how to improve the landscape werediscussed in some respects such as coordinating the protection of the ruins parkand construction of urban park, highlighting the cultural heritage and displayingthe landscape effect, perfecting the interpretation of the ruins and theparticipatory of the park, and the following conclusions were concluded:1. Survey and analysis show that there existing the following problems inthe green space landscape of the DaMingGong National Ruins Park: lack ofgreen quantities, defect in effectively enclosing overall spatial layout, functionaldivision unsystematically, shortage of layering of the landscape, monotonyof the landscape colors, not prominent landscape softening, scare of humanisticconcerns of the landscape, apparently insufficient building of key landscapenodes and so on.2. On a theoretical level, the guiding ideology-“Protect the ruins, preservethe culture, improve the environment, benefit the people” was extracted andsummarized; the landscape design of the DaMingGong National Ruins Park wasalso planned and its cultural and ecological functions were positioned, and thensome principles to improve the landscape were proposed such as balancing theprotection and construction and the construction subjected to protection; exploiting and using it scientifically; sustainable development; focusing onparticular culture and selecting appropriate greening methods.3. At a technical level, four problems related to how to improve the greenspace landscape of DaMingGong National Ruins Park were analysed,①Thelimiting factors associated with the improvement of landscape include urbanenvironment, site itself and current landscape;②The expressions of landscapeelements of the ruins park should meet the flowing requirements: the layoutunifies to the historical pattern of he DaMingGong, the expression meansinheriting the cultural context of DaMingGong, the structural form meeting theneeds of the spatial layers and scales of the DaMingGong Ruins, dispositionforms adapting to the functions of the urban park;③To improve the communitylandscape construction of urban ecological environment, some factors should beconsidered such as green quantities, diversity of species, characteristics ofseasonal change, matching of tree-shrub-grass;④Landscape nodes of largeruins can be shaped by modeling terrain, arranging plant, layouting King Stone,or designing tour routes and garden ornaments to improve its ornamental, functionality and topicality of culture.4. Based on the designing practice of improving the green space landscapeof the DaMingGong National Ruins Park, the overall structure of “Two axes, two rings, eight area” as well as the design vision of six large groups,, ten large themed gardens, thirty six little scenes were proposed, and some specificoptimization ideas, which are with respect to enclosed space, landscape level, landscape colors, landscape softening, landscape humanity, construction andmaintaining management in later period, were illuminated.
