Seepage calculation is an often encountered problem in design of hydraulic structures such as earth dam, sluice. This article summarizes theories and methods for hydraulic structures seepage analysis, and the basic principles of finite element numerical method of seepage calculation. Several aspects are researched which are element size adoption (mesh density) influence on calculation results, seepage field boundary position adoption and permeable foundation calculation depth adoption influence on results and results comparison between hydraulic approximate formula method and finite element numerical method. FEM seepage calculations are conducted using Geostudio software. This research may deepen the knowledge of hydraulic structures seepage analysis theories and methods, and provide guide and reference for seepage calculation in engineering design.
