On the basis of Erne river intake of floodway, the method of hydraulic design and calculation for great flood diversion gates is studied. The results are applied to the hydraulic design of Erhe river.The main results are:1. By reading reference books, the key technical problems in hydraulic design and calculation for great flood diversion projects are discussed. This provided the basis for study in this paper.2.According to the characteristics of gate-controlled project of Erhe River flood diversion, Two-stage Calculation Method for water diversion ratio is put forward. Thus the amount of calculation work is decreased greatly and repeated calculation is avoided.3 .On the basis of analyzing flow characteristics below the gate, the method of hydraulic calculation for downstream energy dissipation with low water level is elaborated. In the meantime, the function of stilling basin's depth and the principle of Newton iteration method are introduced. The computed program is made. The accuracy and efficiency of calculation are greatly improved.4.The effect of flood wave on downstream water level in initial stage is considered. The initial flood wave height is used as initial downstream water level to decide initial flow rate. The height of gate opening and flow rate stage by stage are calculated and this provided the reference for safe running for the future.5.According to the similarity rules of flow and the principles of physical model design, the integral hydraulic model of this flood diversion project is developed. This validated the rationality of hydraulic calculation.
