As China’s rapid economic development, demanding for electricity is growing. And build asecure and reliable power system network is very important. But with the transmission distanceis increased ceaselessly, make the line safe operation under threat. The transmission wiredancing is a key factor of the circuit damage. Transmission wire dancing belongs to a galloping. It is the result of wire icing, produced a non circular cross section, and when there is a high speedairflow over can cause self-excited vibration, bring on low frequency and large amplitudevibration. Transmission wire dancing usually cause breaking of wire, hardware failure and wiretower collapse accident, etc.In order to explore and solve the problem of icy wire galloping, make a detailed explanationon its mechanism. Using FLUENT software to simulate three different ice thickness of the wirein all angles of attack at two different wind speed. Drawn wire air power curve, and madedetailed analysis. By DenHartog and Nigol criterion to judge the range of wire galloping. Conclusion: the aerodynamic characteristics of thin icy wire is stable, so it will not occurdancing phenomenon; Thick icy wire is easy to gallop in the wind attack angle of20degrees to60degrees and120degrees to180degrees, the aerodynamic characteristics is unstable, shouldbe setting anti-galloping measures in this range. The studies provide certain theory basis andreference for the transmission wire anti-galloping control.
