The Application Of Aestheticism To The Landscape Context

Aestheticism which initially came into being in Europe during the Renaissance has been constantly evolved as time goes by. Now it is applied to almost every field. In China, various thoughts from Europe have been continually impacted with our traditional culture since the May Fourth Movement. Especially after the implementation of the reform and opening-up, all kinds of elements have been accepted by us without much consideration and applied to modern urban planning, which gradually led all our cities onto a road, a road that always follows the same pattern and is lack of ethnic, personal characteristics.Based on a lot of literature and landscape instances, this thesis reveals the relevant concepts and theories of aestheticism through introducing the development of art symbol and categorizing the symbol. In particular, the study of art symbol in landscape is more conducive to reveal the relationship of aestheticism and landscape design, and highlight the application of aestheticism to the landscape context. At the end of this thesis, by analyzing writer’s landscape design, some artistic and functional principles are concluded. These principles must be followed when aestheticism is applied to landscape design.It is aestheticism that integrates the modern forms and traditional symbols. After a series operations to the forms, like break-up, combination and deformation, new design ideas filled with modern features and cultural tastes are produced. Then to analyze these wonderful symbols from the perspective of quality and quantity, a satisfying design is born. This design is playing a leading role in an era, a field and a discipline.Both aestheticism and landscape design are big propositions, while the application of aestheticism to the landscape design is a bigger one. Urban planning is the basis of the design before landscape design. In other words, our design is based on the planning. These forefront and aesthetic designs are generated after a deepening process at the basis of the planning, control and initial design. During this process, some appropriate supplements can be done, and even subversive change is allowed. That’s because in planning design there is no cultural and historical requirement to a city and all considerations are general and without aesthetic claim. Therefore we introduce the concept of aestheticism to the landscape design. Considering all the problems, we make it sure that aestheticism plays a leading role in landscape design, meanwhile, to promote the development of aestheticism and make our design more popular.
