Compared to the traditional breakwater, the permeable breakwater improve the unreasonable distribution of the material in the direction of water depth, which has not only the characteristic of low cost, construction rapidly, less dependent on the local seabed geological conditions, but to ensure the normal exchange of water, therefore, it has important scientific significance and application prospects. At the present time, the study of the type and hydrodynamic performance of the permeable breakwater made a great progress, the T-type breakwater consist of a vertical and a horizontal plate is gradually paid attention.Based on the linear potential wave theory, the reflection and transmission effect of the T-type breakwater were researched in the theoretical way. The method of eigenfunction expansions and the continuity of velocities potential is used to obtain the analytical solution of wave acting to breakwater, the numerical result agreed well with the existed theoretical result. At the same time, the model test of the regular wave acting to the breakwater was carried on in the physical flume, the result of the test agreed with theoretical result. Combining the test data, the wave scattering performance was analysis through the theoretical calculation. Discuss the factors influencing the wave scattering performance such as the thickness of the horizontal plate, the submerged depth, the thickness and height of the vertical plate. With the analysis of physical model test results, the conclusion is that the plate breakwaters have the wave scattering performance and in the case of being located on the surface of water is much effective. The result shows that:In the case of being submerged, the wave scattering performance of T-type breakwater is much better as approaching to the free surface; when the submerged depth is constant, the wave scattering effect is much better as the submerged depth deeper with the certain wave length range; the wave scattering effect of submerged T-type breakwater is better than the single submerged vertical plate. In the case of being located on the surface of water, the submerged depth of horizontal plate is deeper, the effect is better; when such depth is constant, the deeper of vertical plate, the better effect; the T-type breakwater is not good as the single vertical plate.
