With the development of the economy of our country, the inter-area connection becomes necessary in large power system. Low frequency oscillation is easy to occur due to the large scale and complicated structure power system. The local small disturbances related to low frequency oscillation will cause chain reaction and could cause outage. This will bring adverse effect on the economy and social stability badly.First, the definition of power system stability is introduced in this paper and then the background and significance of the research is presented. The research condition, the suppression measures and the analysis methods of power system low frequency oscillation are described as well as the definition, function of power system stabilizer (PSS).Then the analysis methods of eigen-sensitivities analysis are presented. There have been some methods of eigen-sensitivities analysis, but most of them aim at the symmetrical system and the research target system of the power system small signal stability is asymmetrical and non-deficient. Aiming at the problem of isolated eigenvalue and the problem of multiple roots partially, the definition of eigenvalue, eigenvector, eigenvalue sensitivity are presented, and especially the definition, the application in other areas and the solution methods of eigenvector sensitivity are given. Moreover, several feasible algorithms of eigenvector sensitivity in the power system were summarized, specially. And the three algorithms of them are also compared and improved. Application of the algorithms in stabilizer parameter tuning is described. To verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, the classic3-machine-9-bus system, the New England10-machine-39-bus system and the25-machine-162-bus system were adopted for simulation. The results indicate that the parameter, and the poles are configured to the target location and the suggested method is proved to be feasible and effective. Furthermore, the influence of the results on the appearance of multiple roots has been discussed.
