Head injuries are often sustained in traffic accidents and head traumas are most likely to result in severe injury and death. Therefore, it is vital to conduct research about types of head injuries, injury mechanisms, injury tolerance, and protective measures. Children suffer a greater risk of head injury compared to adults. Also, the anatomical structures of the child head are quite different from those of the adult head. The latest study indicates that child head can cause severe injury than adult in the same conditions. However,because of the lack of accurate children head finite element model,the damage criterions for child head are based on the data of PMHST (Past Mortal Human Subject Test) currently, the development of children dummy as well. To some extent it makes that it has low accuracy on the child head injury biomechanics research. As a result, to build an accurate child head models and commence on the child head injury biomechanics research has an engineering significance and a practical value.In this study, according to ten-year-old child specific head tissue organic texture, ANSYS ICEM CFD/HEXA and HYPERMESH software were applied to develop a high quality detailed child head FE model.Then,MADYMO software and LS-DYNA software was applied to rebuilt a typical fall accident case of the three-year-old child head FE model.Comparing the analysis of simulation results with the injury of the accident, the competent biological fidelity of the FE model built in this study was validated.Based on Nahum intracranial pressure experiment, LS-DYNA software were applied to pursue simulation to export head FE models’ different location’s stress response. Then the influence caused by the different mesh densities on the brain response and the calculation time-consuming can be received. The ten-year-old child head FE model built in this study was validated through the accident reconstruction and simulation analysis. Then it can be used in the follow-up depth biomechanics investigation.For better model validation, the corresponding age children cadaver experiments must be undertaked. In this study, according to the existing cadaver experiments research, the children cadaveric head experiment scheme is putted forward. Also the test device was designed and the CAD models were created, preparing for the children cadaver experiments.
