In recent years, with the development of power grid construction, the requirements of the channel of the signal to the electric grid protection are increasing day by day. Because of its many advantages, optical fiber communication system has become a preferred scheme of relay-protection channel in power system. The error, delay and interruption produce much more new problems in optical fiber communication channel and protection equipments often refuse service for the alarm of channel. Then it brings hidden trouble to the safe and stable operation of the system.To develop a relay-protection communication monitoring platform, using for the development and testing of relay-protection device, which could simulate the damage of the actual signal transmission process in fiber channel and find the problems of these transmission damage early and quickly. It could be used in debugging, testing, and daily maintenance and maintenance of relay-protection equipment.This paper based on the network transmission damage, including error, time, delay, and interrupt characteristic analysis, combined with the standards of relay-protection in the electric power communication system. The development of fault detection equipment in the communication channel based on the FPGA, which using FPGA+DSP development platform, and realize the function of online-testing in relay-protection by application software on PC, this paper introduces the design scheme of communication test platform detailed. It mainly uses the VHDL language in FPGA chip, which finished the function of fault simulation of design and implementation in channel. The contents are as followed:Realized the error addition in optical fiber channel, including Gaussian white noise of the error, one-bit and burst-error. Realized the delay time addition in optical fiber channel, including the delay time ranged from0to20ms, stepped at lus level. Realized the interruption of channel in optical fiber channel, including the interruption time ranged from0-2s, stepped at lus level. Realized the function of configuring device parameters by application software on PCS-PC.
