Overhead conductors icing will affect the reliability of transmission line, and severe icing on the grid will cause the grid infrastructure great harm. Therefore, early to judge the possibility and degree of power grid icing, and timely to melt ice after the icing occurs is the effective measures to ensure the safe operation of power grid and reduce the loss of power. This paper analyzes the environment variables under the bad weather. Combining the physical model of the conductor icing and thermal balance formula, this paper calculates the conductor icing density in response to different environmental conditions, and calculate the conductor icing forecast, and then comprises the calculation results and the wind tunnel test results to validate the validity of the calculation mode. This paper also analysis the part of conductor’s heat change in melting ice, and according to the physical process of the conductor melting ice build simple melting ice model, and then get the time that melting ice needs through the calculation of overall heat change.Using the solidification, the integration and multiphase flow calculation model of FLUENT software, this paper studies the growth speed of the conductor icing and the effluence of different wind speed on the ice through the conductor icing simulating calculation.Ignoring the ice and air convection heat transfer and radiation heat transfer, only considering the process that the conductor transfer the heat to the ice and the effluence of the critical ice-melting current, this paper establish the simplified calculation model of conductor melting ice, and then use FLUENT software to calculate the time which conductor melting ice needs, which reduces the computational complexity.Application of solidification/integration model, multiphase flow theory, and hypothesis that conductor surface temperature is not changed, this paper analyzes the process of melting ice, and studies the changes of the icing position and the effluence of different temperature on the conductor melting ice.
