As an important transmission mechanism, The worm drive composed by the worm and worm wheel is mainly used in passed staggered axis rotary motion. The worm drive can get a lot of single-stage transmission ratio characteristics. Compactness, smooth, less noise, less shock and less vibration make it happen to be widely used in the modern industry,. Worm gear tooth has a complex curve, which makes it difficult to be measured and designed in traditional design methods. While parametric design method with its efficient, practical features, have great value in a series of product design.similar design and development of a dedicated CAD system. The traditional design are generally used the Hertz contact theory under certain assumptions for calculation, which get an approximate result. But the Hertz contact theory is not practical, because the instantaneous contact line of the worm drive is a space curve. This thesis is based on the Pro/E design software.Combined with Pro/program which is a secondary development of Pro/E to modeled three-dimensional entities using the parametric design method. The main work is as follows:1. Designing the basic size of the Worm reducer with strenth check, based on engineering practice.2. Writing the Pro/program programme on the Pro/E platform to get parametrical designed Archimedes worm and tapered roller bearings.3. Assembling the worm reducer using Pro/E.Making the animation and simulation of worm drive with Pro/E Animation&Pro/E Mechanism module.4. Using MATLAB to solve the worm gear ring volume to the minimum optimization by the method of constrained minimum of the multi-objective optimization method on the worm gear ring volum..according to the actual cost of production.5. Calculating the contact strength using the ANSYS Workbench to contrast the results to its theoretical formula.
