Intelligent substation is an important part of smart grid. The mostimportant feature of that is the intelligent of primary equipment and thenetwork of secondary system[1]. The intelligent of primary equipment meansto monitor the primary equipment in various parameters. The strategy ofequipment maintenance changes from regular maintenance tocondition-based maintenance. Therefore, the condition monitoringtechniques becomes the core of intelligent substation technology. The expertsystem for state evaluation and diagnosis of intelligent substation equipmentis a unified platform of condition monitor of important equipment insubstation, such as transformer, GIS, MOV and so on. The information ofeach state monitoring subsystem is aggregated and analysiscomprehensively. It also has a communication interface for data upload. Theestablishment and application of intelligent substation condition monitoring system makes the traditional condition monitoring transition from anisolated reference system to a global, networked and intelligent system withintegrated condition monitoring, data analysis, diagnostics and servicemanagement functions. It can truly provide technical support forcondition-based maintenance[2].To combine the needs of on-line monitoring of equipment in intelligentsubstation, this paper developments the expert system of intelligent powertransmission equipment condition assessment and diagnostic andvisualization software. The efficiency and professional technical level ofstaff is improved. The reliability of system is also improved. The work ofthis paper is also the foundation of more in-depth study of expert system forpower transmission equipment condition assessment and diagnosis.On the basis of the theory, the design and development ofcommunication system in control platform of master system is completed.This paper describes the design ideas and communication mechanisms. Theprocess, protocols, principles and implementation of communication aremainly described in this paper. The specific implementation method ofcommunication between communication system and other subsystems isalso introduced simply. The system has been successfully developed and run.Through field test, the analysis of field operation data shows that the system can assess the operation status of power transmission and transformationequipment stably and reliably.Through field test, field operation data analysis shows that the systemcan stably and reliably for power transmission and transformationequipment operation status assessment diagnosis.This paper also briefly describes the communications between thecommunication system and other subsystems of the specific implementation.System has been successfully developed and run. Through on-site testing,on-site data analysis shows that the system is running stable and reliablereal-time monitoring to intelligent substation actual operating conditions.
