Urban waterfront space in a city is its important natural resources, as well as vulnerableareas of urban ecological system and significant region of the urban characteristic landscape.People’s desire of high quality urban waterfront area is gradually increasing along with thecity expansion, the decreasing distance between people and nature and waterfront. However,due to accelerating of human activity, waste material continuously discharge to ocean, riverand lake, places where close to urban waterfront become the most easily to be polluted. Whenthe pollution progress exceeds its own self purification ability, the waterside ecologicalsystem will become vulnerable. It will cause diversity of species become less. With overdevelopment along waterside, ecological system which already is vulnerable become evenworse.Along with ecological system changing, the urbanization and changing the city’slandscape belt structure, further it can also have effect on the coordination of natural andhuman landscape. A series of design and study were driven by the development of landscape.Plants play an important role in modern landscape design, and therefore its design andresearch makes significant sense. Indigenous plants are outcome of natural survival of thefittest which not only maintaining the ecological equilibrium and improve the ecosystem, butalso establishing local special phytocoenosium and improving the overall city image. Chinahas variety of local plants resources, but due to the limited knowledge of native plants,especially affected by the new-and-different design concept, people always ignore itslandscape and ecological function in the garden, the usage rate of indigenous plants in gardendesigning is pretty low.This article investigates the application status of indigenous plants in Wei river ofHsienyang. According to research results, this article makes a specific analysis of theproblems and misunderstandings. Through the practical case of systematic research ofindigenous plants in urban waterfront, this article puts forward to develop the indigenousplants in urban waterfront planning and design and create the ecological culture landscape. Then this article makes a reasonable proposal which is consistent with the public aestheticconcept and takes into account the psychological needs of human activities.
