With the continuous extending of expressway construction to mountainousregions, longitudinal sections of mountainous expressway often have long andsteep slopes due to terrain conditions. Affected by heavy-load and overloadingvehicles, as well as slow-moving traffic, rutting is particularly serious in longand steep longitudinal slope sections, which greatly endangers the security ofvehicle driving, and enormously decreases the performance and service life ofasphalt pavement. So it’s essential to carry out relative studies on anti-ruttingperformance of asphalt pavement in long and steep longitudinal slope sections.Via detailed investigations of asphalt pavement in long and steeplongitudinal sections with typical rutting disease, the paper has comprehensivelyanalyzed the formation characteristics, distribution regularity and maininfluences of rutting disease.Since the definition of long and steep slope sections of asphalt pavement isstill not clear, the paper, started with the dynamic characteristics of of heavyloading wagon, the impact of slope length and grade on its speed, and thecorresponding loading time, comes up with the definition of long and steep longitudinal slope based on anti-rutting performance of asphalt pavement, withthe help of finite element analysis method, as well as the viscoelastic strain asquantitative evaluation index.Through the investigation and analysis of domestic asphalt pavementstructure in long and steep longitudinal slope sections and finite elementanalysis method, the changing rule of each structural layer’s rutting depth alongwith the slope length and grade at different base course form and the reasonablethickness of surface course are obtained with the study of the relationshipbetween rutting and the form of base course along with the thickness of surfacecourse. With the full account of the viscoelasticity of asphalt mixture as well asthe effect factors of the rutting on asphalt pavement, an easy and intuitiveViscoelastic Rutting Prediction System, which is easy to operate, is acquired.
