“Chinese style house" is the carrier for probing a kind of ideal housing pattern withtraditional Chinese living culture. In recent years, with the rising of "modern ChineseStyle", architects are exploring and excavating different forms of living space intraditional houses which is imbued with humanistic connotation, aiming to adapt thecontemporary living modes. Many buildings are also in tries to build a residential spacemodel with Chinese traditional artistic conception which embodies the Chinese stylecomplex."Chinese style house" also experienced several stages of building Chinesegardening landscape, adding symbolic Chinese characters as well as improving theChinese architecture. But, among the numerous Chinese style house projects, someintroduce inner court space to correlate with the traditional Siheyuan style; some focus onthe surface of the decoration; Others excavate "Chinese" theme in the landscape of publicspace in the community, whether these are truly to inherit and carry forward theconnotation of traditional local-style dwelling houses worth discussing. The futuredevelopment of "Chinese style house" should be in the rational basis of deeper excavationand thinking, which is not the simple application of the form, but also digging theTradition connotation dialectically and dynamically as well as exploring the combinationwith contemporary application. In the background of this new era, this paper focuses onthe deep excavation of elements from an angle which pays much attention to theconnotation of traditional residence space, and the research of combing the traditionaldwellings elements with modern Chinese style for the sake of adaptability and functionalrequirements in contemporary residential houses.Through the research based on the traditional courtyard houses and the analysis of thecurrent Chinese style house development evolution, this paper first summarizes theelements in traditional local-style dwelling houses which can be used in modern Chinesestyle for residential reference and put forward the thinking that we should excavate thetraditional deeper elements from three aspects：the plan layout, space of the house andyard landscape.Second,using typology principle, first from the view of the site selection,layout and planning, it analyzes the essence of the layout of traditional houses; Again from space factor-elements combination-the Angle of combination group to analyze thetraditional house space composition and combination; Finally it analyzes the aestheticcharacteristics of traditional houses yard landscape through the perspective of landscapeelements-landscape of artistic conception, and reveals the hidden depth in the form oftraditional culture and human feelings, providing the reference for contemporary "Chinesestyle house" based on traditional houses space. Then from the combination of caseanalysis through three levels, this paper explores the deductive techniques and moredetailed specific design gimmick of traditional local-style dwelling houses elements inmodern Chinese style house. Finally, this paper aims to apply the theory research intopractical projects, gifting "Chinese style house" with new connotation and design methodsto better explore the road of "Chinese style house" development in actual design.
