With the development of economy and railway technology in our country, and inorder to satisfy the needs for passengers, Railway Bureaus have retained a large numberof trains equipped with air conditioners and the rate of such trains increasescontinuously. As the main part of trains equipped air conditioner, Air-Conditioning Unitis the main equipment for improving the air quality inside trains and supplying acomfortable environment for passengers. In recent years, as the policy for railwaychanges, trains equipped with air-conditioners haves been used increasingly, thus therepair of Air-Conditioning Unit also increases, and becomes a focus problem for vehicledepartment in every Railway Bureau. Air-conditioning unit maintenance line in ChengDu vehicle Department was designed and built in the1990s. Because of the rapiddevelopment of trains equipped air conditioner and maintenances technology, theexisting Air-conditioning unit maintenance line cannot meet the needs for productionwhether in Technical maintenance side or repair capability side, thus it needs an overalltransformation.Under such background, the thesis, taking the Capacity Expansion Project to beimplemented in Cheng Du vehicle Department into consideration, studies theoptimization for air-conditioning unit maintenance line. Combining the industrialengineering and enterprise reality, aiming at the reality of the air-conditioning unitmaintenance line in Cheng Du vehicle Department and other maintenance lines, thethesis, using heuristic balancing method to make a balance for the assembly line of airconditioning units, also conducts a computer simulation system by adopting Flexsim forair-conditioning unit maintenance line after balance design.Firstly, aiming at the low productivity and balance rate of passenger carAir-conditioning units maintenance line in Chengdu railroad bureau vehicle segment,based on the brief overview on the theory and methods on production line balancing, thepaper analyzed the correlate situation of maintenance line after investigation and datacollection. After work measurement, line cycle calculation, the balance design wasoptimized to maintenance line by heuristic balance method.Secondly, for test of the reforming of maintenance line, the simulation model was established by the software named Flexsim based on the abstract entity from thesimulation of air-conditioning units maintenance line. Through the running ofsimulation model, the existing problems of many workstations were found and methodswere applied to solve such problems above-mentioned.Lastly, by comparing the utilization rate, the free rate and other significant targetsbefore and after the balance, the balanced air-conditioning unit maintenance line has gotmuch improvement and the productivity has also been enhanced obviously. It not onlyimproves the balance rate and resolves the practical problem, but also brings economicbenefit to the enterprise.The study of this topic makes a theoretical preparation for implementing the nexttransformation on air-conditioning unit maintenance line. It also finds an effective wayto explore the production line balance in the likewise enterprises of other railwayenterprises.
