Study On The Spatial Morphology Of Shaowu Heping Ancient Town

In2005, Shaowu Heping ancient town was named the second batch of “china’sfamous historical and cultural towns”. Shaowu Heping ancient town is the precioushistorical and cultural heritages, which represents Chinese colorful historicaltraditions and regional culture as its integrated area of construction and systematicbuilding structure. The ancient town’s spatial morphology not only reflects the overallspatial planning, pattern and texture of the streets and alleys, buildings, but alsocontains deeper level and more comprehensive connotation in intangible culture. A lotof research of ancient town before paid attention to the site selection, overallarrangement, style of the building and so on, while lacking the deep analysis oninternal factors of the spatial morphology as well as the space structure. So this articletentatively uses the space syntax as the new method of space research, throughunconventional perspective and using the mathematics model, tries to complete thequantitative description and analysis on the spatial morphology of Shaowu Hepingancient town.The first part is the basic theory which sketches the object of study, researchmeaning, research methods, and research status at home and abroad. And defines allthe related concepts, introduces the space syntax theory in brief.The second part is the core part of the article which analyzes the spatialmorphology of ancient town through three aspects: overall spatial morphology, streetsand alley spatial morphology, and building spatial morphology. The research has threeparts. The first part is traditional research stage, summarizing the three aspects ofancient town’s spatial morphology, analyzing the influencing factors and basiccharacters. The second part is quantitative analysis, using the space syntax andDepthma software to analyze the three aspects of ancient town’s spatial morphology;summarizing the internal structure character, natural evolution, common problemsand so on. The third part is the protecting and updating period, studying the measuresof protecting and updating the spatial morphology in that three aspects based on thefirst two research results. In conclusion, the article takes Shaowu Heping ancient town as the object ofstudy, analyzes the spatial morphology of ancient town through three aspects: overallspatial morphology, streets and alley spatial morphology, building spatial morphologythrough traditional and quantitative method. In order to understand the characters ofspatial morphology of Shaowu Heping ancient town more adequately, provide thetechnique and theory basis to protecting and updating the spatial morphology ofShaowu Heping ancient town.
