In recent years, with China’s economic construction and thedevelopment of transportation, highway traffic flow, load, speed wasincreasing, leading to the traffic load on the influence of the subgrade isbecoming more and more big. In order to save the land resources, some ofthe highway in our country adopted with low embankment design scheme, this needs us to study the traffic-load-induced settlement of highway lowembankment, to provide theoretical basis for control the settlement ofhighway low embankment after construction. In this paper, through indoorand field test, as well as the theory and the numerical simulation method ofcombining to research on the traffic-load-induced settlement of highwaylow embankment and settlement control measures. Mainly completes thefollowing research work:(1) Laboratory test has been conducted to get the physical andmechanical properties of soil in Jinma area like gradation, liquid plasticlimit, compressibility, cohesive force, angle of internal friction. To providethe material parameters for numerical simulation and the simplifiedcalculation method.(2) According to the traffic load long-term, repeatability and dynamicresponse characteristics, this paper puts forward a new mathematical modelto simulate the traffic load from time and space. Using Matlab to copile thevehicle load subroutine, realize the finite element of the secondarydevelopment in a certain extent.(3) Based on the large finite element analysis COMSOL platform, establishted a finite element calculation model. Respectively from the trafficflow, vehicle weight, speed, and the underground water level, embankment height, etc to analyze the influence of these variables to the subgradesettlement and pore pressure.(4)For the situation of the Jinma area, respectively from the finiteelement calculation and simplified formula calculation to forecast thelong-term settlement of the highway subgrade and analysis the influence ofseasonal factors to the settlement.
