In recent years,with the rapid development of highway engineering, some of the newhighways will pass through the goaf of some mining areas. So the research on treatment ofgoaf is very important to highway engineering. According to the analysis on the predecessors’research achievement, the author gained some useful research results in order to serve forpractical engineering, specific case studies goaf investigation, stability analysis, control andacceptance testing methods in order to offer some available guidance.Firstly, the author comprehensively analyzed the relative research literatures, explainedthe form of goaf and the basic characters and rules of rock movement, and summarized thesink pattern theories. Also, the author uses randomized medium theory to calculate the surfacesink value, horizontal movement and deformation value in order to estimate the effect of thegoaf and decide whether the goaf needs to be treated or not. The author also built a simple butpractical analysis model of goaf underlying highway adopting relative modeling methods offinite element and then carried through stability analysis of the model using ANSYS, largeuniversal finite element analysis software. The analysis achieved good results.Secondly, for highway projects,handling of goaf is the key to dealing with the deph andwidth. This paper discussed a systematic about the highway handling of goaf method fordetermining the width and depth. The paper proposed to affect the depth and falling load witha high degree of fracture to determine whether the method of coincidence goaf depth oftreatment. Combined with practical goaf situations, different goaf roadbed different controlmeasures, and be analyzed.Finally, this paper established stability monitoring system, by a long period of on-siteobservation, analyzed changes about the subgrade settlement, the horizontal displacement andthe stress, verified the effect about handling of goaf.
