It brought obvious early damage to the asphalt pavement because of traffic density, speedfaster, and with large vehicles and overloading of heavy vehicles increased significantly inexpress way. These brought a higher demand to assorted scope、slip-resistance、heat-resistanceand low temperature crack resistance of asphalt pavement. Among this, the top layer is themost direct factors that impacts on pavement quality, is the most important factor, to improvethe quality of road works, the construction quality must be ensure.SMA asphalt mixture has a fine road performance of high temperature stability,carck-resistance and water stability and skid-resistance,so it has been applied to thehigh-grade asphalt pavement in China since the late1990s.As a major highway constructionprovince,it is of great theortical and practical significance for Henan province to carry outSMA research with local material.Experiments were made on the Xingyang to Nanyang Highway. The local courseaggregate, fine addregate and filler were selected for the mixture ratio design of SMA,andthen the mixture gradation and the optimal asphalt-aggregate ratio were confirmed.Theconstruction process, machine and key techniques were researched roundly to guide thepavement construction. The indexes of friction coefficient, smoothness, and deflection wereinspected in SMA pavement and the normal asphalt pavement, and these indexes wereinspected again after one year. It is indicated that the index deciline of SMA pavement isslower than that of normal adphalt pavements, so the SMA pavement has an excellent roadperformance. In addition, the economy analysis was employed, and it shows that the prophaseinvestment of SMA pavement is more.
