As the traffic mileage of the highway tunnel increases rapidly, the proportion of thetunnel in the highway has gradually increased. Tremendous lighting fixtures cost huge electricpower, and the lighting cost has become a great burden to the operation departments. Currentlighting control system keep lighting fixtures always open, regardless of the situation that thetraffic flow is small and the time interval between each vehicles is large, resulting in the wasteof electricity. Therefore it has great significance to develop an efficient and energy-savinglighting control system for the tunnelss of which the traffic volume are small.According to the visual characteristics of tunnel lighting, this paper analyzed the mainfactors which affect the quality of tunnel lighting at first. With a view to the present situationof the development of tunnel lighting system, the control mode, control system and otherfactors were studied to describe the development of tunnel lighting control technology andanalyze the main problems in the application of lighting control technology. Also the presentstatus and prospects of energy conservation of current lighting control methods and lightingfixtures were explored from the energy-serving point. Based on the research of vehicledetection technology and lighting control strategy, this paper designed the inductive tunnellighting control system particularly for the tunnels which have small traffic volume, by usingthree different technologies of induction coil detection, lighting control and induction lightingcontrol strategy. The system has achieved to control the lighting fixtures turn on whilevehicles come into tunnel and put out as vehicles roll off, leading to the security maintainingfor the traffic and reduction of the power consumption of lighting, as well as keep balance ofthe contradiction between security and energy-saving.Finally, with the example of Yang Jia Wan tunnel on Shi Tian highway, the vehicleinductive tunnel lighting control system has been put into test, and results show that thesystem can achieve real-time tunnel lighting control, and accuracy rate can reach more than99%. This system can satisfy the requirements of practical application, provide effectivecontrol method for traffic tunnel management departments, greatly reduce the human inputand the operation cost.
