When the rainwater falling on the road surface filters into roadbed, it can arise hazardsuch as sink-age, spurt, decrease of materials strength. When the rainwater forms runoff,hydroplaning would occur and the splashing sprays will clag the sight of drivers. So aneffective surface drainage system is very important link to service of road and safety fordriver. Through empirical formula and theoretical analysis, regarding surface drainage assubject investigated, this paper mainly does some work as following:1. It analyzes the constitution of the road surface drainage and discusses the designparameter such as longitudinal slope, transverse slope, water-carrying section width, designflow, design frequency and return period.2. It presents applicable condition for water spreading drainage and centralizationdrainage, and presents more simple formula to calculate the depth of surface water, meanflow rate and max flow rate, and deduces formula of grade surface flow according twoconditions which are filling and cutting section respectively, and gathers protecting type ofgrade surface, and presents the types and applicable condition of protecting.3. It analyzes ditches by the way of format of drainage ditch, collocation method,discharge, permissible velocity, flow pattern distinguish, flow in curve segment, designparameter. It also brings forward collocation method in different segment and flux calculatingof different ditch.4. Combining empirical formula and theoretical analysis, it analyzes flow capacity ofcurb-opening inlet in continuous sloping segment and sag of vertical curve. Based on fluxformula of side weir, it presents the formula for efficiency of interception of curb-openinginlet in continuous sloping segment.5. It firstly analyzes the water flow process on superelevation segment and presentsdesign parameter of drainage for drainage on superelevation segment.
