Over40billion square meters of building area makes China the world’s largestbuilding market. The annual growth of building area is up to16-20million squaremeters and the new building area will be up to20billion square meters in2020.On theother hand, the energy consumption of unit building area is2-3times higher than that indeveloped countries, most of the buildings are high energy-consuming. The grim factsshow that promoting building energy-efficieny is very imperative. However, currentsoftware for this usually need large amounts of manual work on preparing the buildingmodel for the software since the design result cannot be directly used, which leads tolow efficiency and is prone to errors.A digital building model and a buildingenergy-efficient design tool based on this model are demanded to solve thisproblem.BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology provides the very model andbuilding energy-efficient design software based on BIM technology can effectivelysolve the problems of building energy-efficient design domain. This study serves as the late stage work of development of BIM-based buildingenergy-efficient design software.Based on the existing research, the aim of this study isto develop prototype system based on mandatory specification of the energy-efficientdesign of buildings in China by integrating BIM technology and EnergyPlus.First, through literature research and data collection of existing buildingenergy-efficient design software application, the system requirement of buildingenergy-efficient design software based on BIM-based technology is completed;Second, through further analysis of the IFC standard and IDF data formats, the transformationmechanism from the IFC data to the IDF data is further improved.Third, two importanteffects,i.e. shading effect and the thermal bridge effect are considered in the systembecause they can impact building energy consumption remarkably.Fourth, on the basisof existing research, the system processes and model are adjusted and new module isadded and developed. Finally, the software prototype system is tested in an actualproject to verify its feasibility。As a conclusion, the prototype system is applicable in building energy-efficientdesign of public building in China and this reaserch lays a solid foundation for the development of the next-generation building energy-efficient design software used inChina.
