Faced with an increasingly serious environmental and energy issues, the gas enginewas particularly important, while the gas engine’s performance depends on the gas and thequality of gas and air mixing provided by the mixing system. So the mixer in the inletsystem has an important impact on engine performance. In view of this, this paperanalyzed mixer characteristics and improved design.Based on Pro/E to establish a three-dimensional model of current proportional mixer, this paper simulated the steady-state process by Fluent and analyzed the flowcharacteristics of the mixer. The results show that the present proportional mixer can notmeet the engine requirements for gas. So it is necessary to optimize the structure ofproportional mixers to meet the requirements of engine performance by improving the gasvalve of proportional mixer. In order to improve the existing proportional mixer, it was simulated and analyzedthat the steady-state process of quick opening-type, parabolic-type and linear valves inseveral typical conditions, and the flow characteristics of the three valves was obtained.According to the results and the requirements of the engine, the improved valve wasproposed. By the steady-state process simulation in different conditions, the flowcharacteristic of the improved valve was gained. And the influence of air inlet and gasinlet size was discussed.
