The infrastructure are the basic facilities which support higher layer applicationsoftware to run. For the centralized deployed information systems, the infrastructureincludes uninterrupted power supply system, computer room cooling system, essentialnetwork resources and computer hardware.Since1990s, the Headquarters’ Railway Information Systems have acquired aremarkable progress. Thirty application systems have been put into operation in fouraspects, such as transport dispatch, business management, external information service,operation supporting. The application systems are deployed in six computer rooms inthe Headquarters. A professional team which consists of hierarchical personnel is incharge of operating and maintaining information systems and the infrastructure. Hotline, ITSM and online support forum are the three main technical methods to get theevents of information systems, such as alert, alarm, customer complain, etc. The safemaintenance of information systems infrastructure is an important means to ensure thatinformation systems run smoothly. It has great significance to study on safemaintenance of the infrastructure.Firstly, this paper does detailed analysis of the events of operation andmaintenance. The analysis result showed that information system malfunctions aremostly caused by the infrastructure defects. The main causes of those malfunctions areinfrastructure alteration, network resource deficiency and cooling capability deficiency.Then, this paper does detailed study on the safe maintenance of the above mentionedthree main causes of the information systems malfunctions. In the aspect ofinfrastructure alteration, this paper does risk analysis of the project to on-line replacingUPS, by using theories and methods of Safety Engineering, such as Fault Tree Analysis,etc. After risk analyzing, the optimal project is selected. According to the analysis result,the key procedure of the optimal project is separated into several basic actions, in orderto ensure the key procedure be successful. In the aspect of cooling system, this paperdoes detailed analysis of the cooling system of the No.6computer room, builds a modelfor evaluating the cold load of a computer room, and also provides a formula and adetailed method for measuring and calculating the cold load. In the aspect of optimizingnetwork resources, this paper gives some solutions to improve network availability and implement network traffic management. According to the given solutions, traffic loadare balanced to different links as well as the traffic paths are backuped mutually on thewide area network. Meanwhile, the mission-critical traffic bandwidth is guaranteed aswell as others are restricted on the Internet access point.The study is combined with the operation and maintenance practice, and thepositive effects are significant after the research findings being put in practice. Muchimprovement has been made in the quality of the infrastructure maintenance by puttingthese research findings into effect.
