Trailing suction dredger as a multi-conditions engineering ship, the research onpropulsive performance of it has been hot issue. The dredging operation need meet theconditions of low speed and thrust requirements, and meet speed and powering. Based on theabove considerations, Z push propeller, two-speed gear box and ducted controllable pitchpropellers are used. Ducted controllable pitch propellers which contain the advantages ofducted propeller and controllable pitch propeller have been widely used, and itshydrodynamic performance of the study continued to deepen.Paper mainly idea is the study of hydrodynamic performance on ducted controllablepitch propellers relying on trailing suction hopper dredger. Its main contents include: thedevelopment overview on propulsion systems of trailing suction hopper dredger, thepropulsion system development course of ducted controllable pitch propellers, analyses theflow-field flow characters and theoretical studies on propulsion performance of ductedcontrollable pitch propellers, CFD calculation method described, the application of CFDmethods on paddle as a system, the propeller performance comparison between Ductedcontrollable pitch propellers and conventional propeller, the reaserch on propellerperformance of different relative position of ship and propeller.Based on computational fluid dynamics, simulate of propulsion system of trailingsuction hopper dredger by commercial CFD software Fluent. Analyze and compare thetrailing suction hopper dredger propulsion system flow characteristics, pressure distributionand propulsion performance.Paper the main conclusion is as follows: in trailing suction hopper dredger two specialconditions, compared ducted controllable pitch propellers and original propulsion system insurface pressure distribution and velocity vector distributions, pressure distribution near theedge guide is more complicated and pressure than other parts of the blade, the pressuregradually increases from root to tip, in both operating conditions, ducted controllable pitchpropellers can give full play to main engine; Can improve promote performance such astrailing suction hopper dredgers, tugboats and other multi-state vessels; Use of ductedcontrollable pitch propellers can increase speed and thrust when the freedom of navigation;Two kinds of conditions, thrust deduction fraction of the propeller in bottom of the stern is less than which is in back of the stern, the propeller at the stern paddle with a good bottom,hull and propeller speed velocity field interaction is more favorable; Speed velocity field ofhull and propeller interaction is more favorable as the propeller in bottom of the stern.
