Virtual test technology comparing with the traditional experimental methods is moreflexible, timesaving, economic, safe and reliable; as a result of this, the virtual testtechnology applied in the large scale complicated industrial product such as the ship in thestage of research and development is the inexorable trend of development. In this paper, avirtual test method of ship structural strength under non-linear wave load is investigated inview of the application of virtual test technology in hull structure strength test. Bycombining the virtual test technology and finite element analysis technology and usingVC++and OpenGL language to develop and improve the virtual test system of hullstructural strength, a convenient and effective means for hull structure design andassessment work is provided. The following aspects are studied:1. The principle of non-linear wave load calculation method and dynamic responsecalculation method are described. The dynamic response under non-linear wave load isanalyzed by means of the finite element analysis software MSC/Patran.2. A virtual test method under non-linear wave load is developed. The virtual test ofdynamic response of the hull structure strength under non-linear wave load is implementedby means of non-linear wave load in time domain simulation and transient response analysismethod.3. The wave load stress and hull stress real-time dynamic display have been realized byusing VC++and OpenGL tools. A stable and reliable virtual test system has been developedand improved in the ways of consulting the practical test process and combining thecomputer technology and finite element analysis technology.4. A virtual test of sample vessel stress is implemented based on a real ship of a certainmodel by simulating the real ship loading condition and arranging the measurement points. Finally, the accuracy and feasibility of the virtual test results are analyzed and comparedwith the real ship test results.
