Following the rapid growing population, the frequent expanding economy, andthe fast replacing land use; most metropolis are facing the same problem which theircentral areas are crying for reforming since reform and open in China. Thepredicament of resident trip is the focus of attention from official to nongovernmentalduring the renewal of old town. And managing the traffic jams is becoming theimportant gap to the renewal of old town and its economic development. Therefore,this selected topic has a bright realistic significance.For most of the visitors, narrow roads, crowded people and heavy traffic are thegeneral impressions towards the old central districts of Guangzhou. And thecomplicated situation is due to a combination of subjective factors and objectivereasons. Through questionnaire survey and field investigate; the paper proves theroots of the problem can be shown in two contradictions: one is between the intentionof the resident trip and the actual vehicle flow; the other is between the populationdensity and the limited. So, start from solving these two contradictions; the paperanalyzes synthetically the trait of resident trip and the temporal and spatial changingfeature of traffic flow; summarizes the characteristics of high trip rate of traversingthrough different areas, underperformed selecting for the trip mode, the travel time isfasten on rush hours, and etc. Then points out the transport problems of shortingdirectional guide to relief traffic in the peak hour, classifying the roads is not obtainthe effect, high repeat index of bus lines, not easy to transfer, and etc. For this reason,the main points of the optimizing measures are to realize three aspects: firstly,regulate for the transportation junction of artery road; secondly, construct the trafficdispersal areas in the interior district; thirdly, delimit the protection zones for thetransportation. And try to promote a plan for optimizing the traffic in the old centraldistricts of Guangzhou, which are expanding a walking zone for short-distance trip;constructing a micro-circle bus system for middle-distance trip; and combining the artery network and rail transit for long-distance trip. Thereby, finds out an effectivemethod to realize relieving the traffic trip in the old central district of Guangzhou.
