Absorption cooling cycle can utilize heat energy as driven power directly. In addition, the main working pairs used in the absorption cycle are environmental friendly. Therefore absorption technologies are becoming more and more attractive recently. To propose new cycles is always the hot field in the absorption refrigeration research. This paper presents a novel absorption cooling cycle for low grade heat source with large temperature glide. This new cycle is coupled by a single effect sub-cycle and a sub-cycle driven by low grade heat source. The waste gas successively heats high-temperature generator and low-temperature generator. This cycle can make more full use of the heat at low temperature contained in variable-temperature heat reservoirs. The new cycle was investigated by theoretical analysis using water/lithium bromide as its working pair. The effect of E/A heat transfer performance and evaporating temperature, the cycle’s evaporating temperature, condensing temperature, generating temperature on the COP of the new cycle. The results show that the cooling capacity output of the new cycle is much more than that of the conventional single effect absorption cycle with the same variable-temperature heat reservoirs, and the temperature of discharged heating fluid of the new cycle is much lower than that of the conventional single effect absorption cycle. The analysis results of this cycle show that the evaporator/absorber heat transfer property has a great influence on new cycle’s performance. We get a25percent improvement in performance when the temperature difference goes up from5℃to10℃. A setup of an ejector-absorption combined cooling cycle was designed and built. The setup is described in detail. After careful debugging, single effect absorption refrigeration cycle using water/lithium bromide as working pair was studied in the same experimental system. The results show that the single effect absorption cycle has actual cooling ability.
