Under China’s rapid economic development mode, metal and non-metal mining industry started to boom and as the necessary infrastructure of maintaining the normal production of mine enterprise, tailings impoundment is the significant dangerous source of metal and non-metal mines. Once a tailings dam accident happens, the loss will be very huge. Under such grim situation of safety production, the sustainable security operation state of tailings impoundment is paid more attention by our country and society.Dynamic monitoring system of tailings impoundment, as a new way of safety management of tailings pond, is able to timely and accurately obtain the technical indicators of the monitoring units in real time. Not only can it save the artificial monitoring workload, but also the system is able to forecast the variation trend of different monitoring unit according to the analysis results of the monitoring unit index, which would promote the timely identification of hidden potential danger in tailings impoundment and ensure the sustainable safety operation of tailings impoundment.The main content is listed as follows:(1) Introduced the current situation of dynamic monitoring system of domestic and international tailings impoundment and the overall security situation of China’s tailings pond; analyzed engineering characteristic of China’s tailings reservoir; elaborated hazard identification of tailings pond including tailings disaster forms, destructive mechanism of tailings disaster and safety management of tailings reservoir.(2) Through the factor statistical analysis of domestic and foreign221tailing accidents, determined the monitoring units of quantitative analysis of the tailings impoundment, and used the Analytic Hierarchy Process to establish a model of "safety operation of tailings dam", which is a decision-making layer of the hierarchical model, and each case layer were quantitatively analyzed, and finally every index weight is to be rearranged.(3) Introduced the definition and the contents of dynamic monitoring system, and according to the different monitoring unit, introduced the corresponding monitoring instruments and equipment; taking one tailings pond as an example, introduced the dynamic monitoring system of tailing dam in practical application; made a specific analysis of feasibility and necessity of establishing dynamic monitoring system in China’s large tailings impoundment, and at last draw its feasible conclusion.
