Due to the acceleration of urbanization, the traditional urban layout in Guangzhou hasbeen partly damaged, cultural context is also getting vague and the historical and culturallandscape scattered like pearls in the corner of the city.In2010, Guangzhou began the construction of greenway network in a large scale, anindependent means of transportation, which represents the "slow life", extended toGuangzhou city along the urban road or the river shore.So far, Guangzhou greenway has covered ten districts and two cities,1560kilometers intotal.With the use of greenway across the city, the historical and cultural landscape is beinglinked up in a new way.This paper discusses the relationship between greenway and the historical and culturallandscape along, hoping to find the collision point from their mutual connection andinteraction and to build a system model of them, which will add the consideration of thehistorical and cultural landscape to the greenway planning in the future.The first chapter gives a brief introduction, which describes the purposes and researchmethods of the relationship between greenway and the historical and cultural landscape.The second chapter defines the greenway and the historical and cultural landscape, andlists its related theory researches, laying a solid foundation for the research.The third chapter discusses features of the relationship between greenway and thehistorical and cultural landscape, and with the reference of greenway development in UnitedStates and the construction of Guangzhou greenway, summarizes the characteristics of theirrelationship as Connectivity, Conservation and Subjectivity.The fourth chapter provides an overview of construction of Guangzhou greenway, andanalyzes the construction process and the completed greenway network.The fifth chapter analyzes the historical and cultural landscape alongside the greenway toa deep extent, from aspects like geographical location, historical value, landscape form andworth of visit.The sixth chapter is the key of this paper. Through the three levels as overall planning ofnetwork construction, moving tour line plan, space detail design, it proposes an idea of theconstruction of greenway and the historical and cultural landscape system from macro tomicro.
