As China developed into the21st century, resources and energy issues becomeincreasingly prominent. As the nation’s third-largest city, Guangzhou’s building sustainabledevelopment becomes the focus of attention across the country. Meanwhile, regional cultureof Guangzhou is gradually losing its particularity, the "international" construction is rampant, leading the blind worship to the technology of modern architecture; Also, historic buildings inGuangzhou declines due to inadequate protection. As early as early years of20thcentury, anumber of foreign architects have made a series of architectural practice aiming at the uniqueclimate characteristics in Guangzhou, completed a certain number of modern verandaarchitecture. And the architecutre fits so well into local climate that it spread all across thepearl river and the sameen island. If we want to seek the urban and building region principle inthe background of global assimilation, it is necessary to review the veranda architecture ofthat time. It is a guide for us to explore the modern road construction of Lingnan localcharacteristics, and to the development of the unique patterns of the Lingnan construction. From the perspective of building technology, we made quantitative analysis andevaluation to the thermal buffer zone in veranda architecutre.Using comparative analysis, theapplicability of thermal buffer zone of different width of corridor in different direction. Andwe analyzed its indoor lighting, anti-solar radiation, temperature, comfort and so on, in orderto make a generally quantitative assessment.Through analysis and comparison by simulation, we can find out that corridors ofdifferent direction all have a certain impact on indoor daylight level, but they can meetspecification requirements and also effectively prevent glare. The light uniformity levelimproves as the width of the corridor increases. And corridor shows good ability in blockingthe sun, letting in appropriate amount of solar radiation in both summer and winter. Also, room temperature will be further reduced with width of the corridor increases, due to lesssolar radiation.Through overall analysis and comparison, we could find out that Thermal buffer zone inveranda architecture can meet most of the anti-heat needs, meanwhile it is not entirely suitablefor the rainy days and it cost more. What can be done is to recognize its merits, make up for itsshortcomings, and clear the anti-heat direction of Lingnan construction, in order to arouse thereflections on the future of Lingnan modern architecture.
