Landscape planning and design was a process of creating spatial landscape environment mainly using natural landscape combined with artificial landscape, to meet the demand of peoples’relaxation, entertainment, manufacture and life. Modern planning and design focused on people as its core, while considered the protecting of environment and reasonably exploiting of resources. Different research plan was carried out according to different designing area. So it is important to get spatial data and analyze it in the process of landscape planning and design and those analysis works was accomplished by planning designers. Geographical Information System was used to manage and analyze spatial data and it had grown into a quite perfect discipline combined with computer science, Geo-spatial information science, natural racecourse and environment science. Spatial analysis and3D visualization functions were useful to the analysis and express of spatial data and they had been used extensively in the urban landscape planning and design.This thesis took the central planning area in Fangchenggang city of Guangxi province as the research area. Topographic map, remote sensing images and many types of basic survey data was used in the process of research, and elevation model created by GIS and remote sensing images were overlayed to construct the3D virtual environment. The analysis of Horizon, terrain and spatial pattern could get reasonable results in3D virtual environment and provide reference for the landscape planning and designMain conclusions were made through this research:(1) Basic database included image and statistic data were created in this study, which aimed at laying the groundwork for the detecting and monitoring of landscape elements.(2)3D (stereoscopic) terrain surface was created by Dem and remote sensing images, which provide a effective method to The analysis of Horizon, terrain,spatial pattern, tide lines and classification of landuse suitability.(3) The3D virtual environment constructed by terrain surface and3D building models made up for the limits of traditional landscape pattern analysis, while supported the pattern design of landscape.The designer could get the urban landscape pattern information through the virtual space roaming system, which provided technical support for the3D space browsing and visual management.
