Hybrid Electric Vehicle is a feasible solution to deal with the environmentalpollution and energy crisis. In this area, Integrated starter/generator(ISG) has becomethe focus. This technology is a kind of mature hybrid technology, with which hybridelectric vehicles perform well in oil saving effect, low emissions, rapid rev.stop, powerauxiliary strong, regenerate energy use, etc. At present most ISG motors use permanentmagnet synchronous motors, which requires higher power density due to the limits ofthe installation space. Thus, research on the high power density ISG motor is of greattheoretical and practical significance.Firstly, this paper introduces the influence of electromagnetic loads on high powerdensity motors, and puts forward a method of increasing electromagnetic loads with lineload uncharged, in order to meet the requirements of high power density ISG permanentmagnet synchronous motor. Further, the different slot/pole combination and rotorstructure of the ISG permanent magnet synchronous motor are investigated, and a morereasonable ISG motor scheme is confirmed. Moreover, finite element modeling andsimulation on ISG permanent magnet synchronous motor are conducted, and theprocess and results of the calculation of the motor parameters of straight shaft andquadrature axis armature reaction inductions are offered. Meanwhile, the leakageinductance and the armature winding resistance are calculated. Finally, the tractioncharacteristics of ISG motor at three different working point (the base speed workingpoint, the maximum torque working point, the highest speed working point) areanalyzed, and it shows that the ISG permanent magnet synchronous motor have highair-gap flux density, and completely meet requirements. At the end, summary has beendrawn to this paper, and some problems for further study are proposed.
