Design And Application For A Scaling Mechanism Based On Modular Element

A scaling mechanism is a kind of collapsible mechanism, which is constituted by parts. There are many characteristics in modular scaling mechanism, which moves in the same shape, while the size ratio changes. The scaling mechanism is widely used in many fields such as aerospace industry, military battlefield and facilities in daily life and so on.Firstly, some modular basic elements in plane and space of scaling mechanism are proposed in the paper. Then the structural principle and kinematics of each element are analyzed. The structure principle and theory are provided for combination method of modular scaling mechanism and designing the new scaling mechanism.Secondly, after analyzed the basic modular elements, the structure design of modular scaling mechanism is studied, that is to get the plane or space shapes through the combination method among the basic module elements. Under the constraint of geometric feature, new methods are proposed, such as line shape, ring shape, tree shape combination and so on.Finally, some analysis and application of scaling mechanisms, which based on several basic module elements, are constructed by design software in the end of the paper.The scaling mechanism is constructed with some plane or special basic elements, which can be used as a module. Through different combinational methods, the scaling mechanisms with different structure and function are designed. The modular design of scaling mechanism is convenient in design and manufacture, costs savings, and has reconstruct and reconfigurable characteristics. There are good prospects for development in the application.
