We often encounter with the representative of the red clay subgrade filling in the expressway construction in Hunan province.according to the 《Highway Subgrade Construction Technical specification》, these can’t be directly used in the soil of subgrade filling. Because of imprope technical measures in the already built engineering of some part of after treatment of subgrade filling, subgrade nonuniformt sedimentation, pavement cracking, embankment landslidehe happen from time to tome.This is a threaten to the highway safety. So through the integration of the previous research and supplementary study, puting forward the principle and method of application. It can significantly save construction investment, protect the environment, effectively ensure the engineering quality, and further expand the application scope based on the successful promotion in Hunan province. Therefore, it is a worth researching topics of the application and dissemination to red clay subgrade filling.This paper discusses the indoor way-use performanc of typical red clay on Dongxin and Chenning highway, and experiment research of red clay subgrade on Dongxin highway WK15site to summarize and discuss the filling standards of red clay. It will provide some theory and the supporting echnical to the road design and construction method in red clay area. In summury, it get the following beneficial results:(1) The paper discussed the compaction, CBR characteristic, the permeability and improved features of red clay in damp environment. It deepened understanding to its way-use performance, and put forward some control Suggestions on red clay subgrade compaction in wet environment.(2) The paper did field compaction technology experiment research in the red clay roadbed of Dongxin highway WK15. The paper drew scene suitable compaction technology and the reasonable construction guidelines of red clay subgrade by the qualitative analysis of various factors which affects rolling effect, referencing the way-use performance test.(3) The paper compared the sino-foreign subgrade filling standards, discussed the feasibility of current specification of red clay subgrade reducing compacted standards within the framework, and put forward the use of air volume ratio as compaction standards and the corresponding specific numerical standards.
