Faced with the situation of increasing scarcity of world energy, countries arepaying more and more attention to energy consumption problems. Because of buildingenergy consumption occupies a large proportion of the total energy consumption, it isthe key of studying and working. Using external shading as an effective means toreduce building energy consumption, it has realistic meaning to study problems on itsdesign aspects. With a view to external shading of residential building in Changshaarea, its energy-saving design is studied in this paper, in order to provide a referencefor external shading design. In this paper, firstly, the basic information of Changsha area is studied, includingthe characteristics of climatic environment and architecture. This result provides thebasic parameters for the latter study. Secondly, a building model is established and itsenergy consumption is simulated by using the PKPM Building Energy Design AndAnalysis Software, then the result data is analysed by DOE-2. This process is aquantitative study on energy-saving potential for external shading of residentialbuilding in Changsha area. In the aspect of external shading design, the types ofexternal shading and the basic information of each ones are introduced, includingusing performance, material, construction feature and so on. And then, theconstruction size of seven common kinds of external shading is studied. Based on theDesign Standard for Energy Efficiency of Residential Buildings in Hot Summer AndCold Winter Zone(JGJ134-2010), the value scope of the eigenvalue(A/B) ofconstruction size is obtained. It is convenient to use for designer. Besides, theinfluence of seven common kinds of external shading on building energy consumptionis researched by using the simulation method. And the building energy-saving rate ofeach species is obtained. It provides a reference for the reasonable selection ofexternal shading. At last, some problems which should be noticed in external shadingdesign and their solutions are summarized for guiding designers to correct designexternal shading.
