| The theory of performance-based seismic design of structures has developedrapidly in recent years and become the research focus in many countries.Thismethod, representing the development direction of seismic design of modern structures, will be the main theoretical basis for revision of seismic code in the21st century. This thesis focuses on steel frame with bucking-restrained braces and discussesits performance-based seismic design method and finite element simulation, then, astructure designed in this method is analyzed to obtain the structure’s performanceunder earthquake. In the end,the design method and process are proposed forengineering application. The main content is as follows:Based on the basic theory of performance-based seismic design, the performancetarget and inter-story displacement angle limits of this special structural system aredetermined. The design principles and methods of steel frame with bucking-restrainedbraces are studied, then,a structure is designed to verify the feasibility of this method. The finite element analysis software OpenSees is used in the simulation of thestructure.Appropriate component, material and node connection models are introducedin this thesis.A equivalent stiffness method is proposed for simulating the specialbraces.By comparing of two hysteresis curves from experimental results and thesimulation results,it shows the method is simple and with sufficient accuracy. The structure’s seismic capacity was evaluated through modal, pushover and timehistory analysis. The results show that the design target is achieved, the results as wellas verify the preliminary design methods. But, the results also show that there aresome differences between some assumptions in the preliminary design methods andthe actual case from the analysis, some details need to be improved. In order to consider the differences above, the preliminary design methods wereimproved in the distribution pattern of inter-story shear, the design sequence of theframe and the curve of the lateral displacements. Then, the performance-based seismicdesign method of the steel frame with bucking restrained braces was proposed, whichis not only suitable in new structure design but also in reinforcement and renovationof existing buildings. |
