The modern world transportation history has undergone a process of development.Modes of transport changs from relying mainly on water transport, railways,highways to the comprehensive transport systems.Inland navigation,the basic industry,will receive more and more attention,after full development of high-speed railways and highways.However,with the rising prices of crude oil, ship fuel costs are also increasing in proportion of the total ship operating cost,which seriously restricts the further development of shipping industry.Practice shows that to reduce the fuel consumption per kilometer will cut down the ships’ operating costs, and achieve energy saving and emission reduction at the same time.Therefore,the shipping companies focus on researching solutions and technical for reducing energy consumption per km, to promote their operation efficiency and competitiveness.With the same conditions of channel and loading, the fuel consumption per kilometer is significantly different when ships run at different engine speed, there is a proper engine speed at which ships consume the lowest fuel per kilometer.This paper aims at that ships consume the lowest fuel per kilometer, and developments a set of ship speed measurement and analysis intelligent energy-saving devices,providing drivers with the energy-saving engine speed in different route segment,in order to save ships’ fuel consumption.The main content of the study include:First,developing ship running state measurement scheme.Design the ship running state detection device to measure and record ship run-time parameters of fuel consumption,host rotation speed, sailing speed, location,heading and other information.Second,study the energy transfer among ship,host machine and propeller as well as matching characteristics between the three of them.Determine the optimization goals and constraints.Then identify energy-saving speed of the lowest fuel consumption combined with the specific channel information.Third,design the ship operation state and optimum speed display system.The system achieves functions of input the ship and channel information and display the optimize energy-saving speed. This paper presents the plan that separate the channel into segments.The computer displays the corresponding energy-saving speed in each section and drivers operate the ship according to the host speed provided by computer.Under the condition of completing the navigation task on time, the system can achieve the purpose of least total fuel consumption and realize energy saving and emission reduction targets.With the improvement and testing according to the working environment of ship,the system designed in this paper was installed on a real ship and began to test in the Three Gorges Reservoir area and the Yangtze River waterway.First.the system obtained ship run-time data and channel information to establish the database.Then turn on the optimization system.According to the ship’s location,the system could output optimized energy-saving speed successfully. During the testing period,the system was running well and achieved good results.
