The automobile have promoted human civilization largely, but at the same time, it also brings us significant disaster, especially presented as road traffic accidents since the day of its birth. All kinds of road traffic accidents caused numerous civilian casualties and significant economic losses. According to statistics, rear-end collisions are one of the most common type of accidents. And collision accidents that cars crash the trucks’rear are extremely dangerous event, usually cause serious distortion of the front body and casualties of the passengers in car. Therefore, the study of the rear under-run protection devices is meaningful for the improvement of the vehicle crash passive safety.This article created the3D models of rear under-run protection devices, mobile deformable barrier and car according to the Chinese standard11567.2-2001(The requirements of the rear under-run protection devices). Then proceed with meshing and finite element method pre-process using HYPER WORKS. And next do the simulating of mobile deformable barrier to rear under-run protection device and car to rear under-run protection device using ANSYS/LS-DYNA. Assess the performance of the rear under-run protection device by analyzing the distortion, displacement, energy absorption and stress of the different parts of the rear under-run protection device. Study the performance of the rear under-run protection device by doing width offset collision simulation. Analyze the parametric which may influence the performance of the devices.However, according to the domestic and international research of energy absorption type under-run protection, this paper designed a new energy absorption type under-run protection device which can improve the energy absorption property. It selected the thickness of rectangular ripe, the width of beam, the angle of bracket and so forth as optimized factors by a multi indexes orthogonal experiments. The ordering of impact that factors act on evaluating indicators had been found after the optimization experiment. And it transformed a multi indexes problem into a Single index problem based on "Comprehensive Evaluation Method". The feasibility of improved structure had been verified by the rear-end collision simulation.The traffic accidents on highways indicate that the crash worthiness of the domestic rear under-run protection device is very poor, and the relate statutes are not executed effectively. At last, this paper suggests government to improve relevant legislation and to strengthen the research to reduce the damage caused by rear end collision.
