At present, China has become the world’s largest car-producing country and consuming country, but the car also brought a series of energy and environmental issues. To solve this problem, governments around the world have introduced a large number of vehicle environmental protection laws, the various car manufacturers vigorously developed high efficient energy conversion device. Emerged in the1970s, automobile exhaust thermoelectric power generation system is becoming the hotspot of the major car firms and research institutions, which is a vehicle exhaust emissions in the thermal energy conversion to electrical energy, can effectively improve the utilization of fuel rate, reduce the harmful substances in exhaust gases, with strong prospects for application, and a broad market space.On the basis of relevant research and the existing of automobile exhaust thermoelectric power generation system has the shortage of the output power is small, low conversion efficiency and structure of the compact insufficient at this stage, this paper researches automobile exhaust thermoelectric power generation system in the multi-field coupling conditions of heat-flow and flow-solid coupling, providing the way to increase the temperature difference between hot and cold side of the thermal energy converter, improving the thermal energy converter surface temperature distribution and optimizing the thermal energy converter’s specific power.Based on computational fluid dynamics, this paper uses CATIA3D modeling software to establish the geometric model of the vehicle exhaust thermal energy converter, ANSYS Workbench FEA software for the sequential coupling and fluid dynamics simulation module Fluid, Flow,(CFX,) to analyze the high-temperature exhaust’s gas flow and heat transfer process of the automotive exhaust thermal energy converter, the Steady-State Thermal (ANSYS) and Static Structural (ANSYS) module to achieve the coupling of the temperature, fluid and solid.This paper analyzed heat-flow coupling of a new type automobile exhaust thermal energy converter, got finite element model and boundary conditions of each medium, given the coupling heat transfer equations to calculate the control method, got the temperature, pressure and the simulation results of the flow field of the coupled system, providing a research basis for the subsequent simulation. This article also analyzed the heat-solid coupling of the vehicle exhaust thermal energy converter, loaded the temperature of the thennal-fluid coupling analysis, the preload of the clamping bolt and gas pressure of high-temperature exhaust, determined the constrains of the coupled system, used the discrete solution method to get the stress and strain cloud of car exhaust thermal energy converter. The simulation results show that the automobile exhaust thermoelectric power converter studied in this paper meet the requirements of the usage, can provide a reference for future research.
