With the development of computer, networks and communication technology, modern ship maintenance management have also developed quickly in digital and network technology aspect. From the early centralized monitoring system to distributed control system and now the fieldbus control system, the alarm and monitoring system of ship’s engine room has been automated, networked and in digital.The alarm and monitoring system is an important system in ship’s engine room, it’s used to monitor the operation condition and alarm parameters of the important devices. When the system detects an exception, the system will give out sound and light alarm, indicating that the operation personnel to deal with alarm fault, and remedy the related equipments.This thesis introduced the development of monitoring and alarming system of the ship’s engine room and some of the domestic and foreign mature products. Then described the main technology that the system design process involved in:PLC technology, fieldbus technology, local area network communication protocol, data acquisition technology etc. This paper analyzed the advantages of the PLC in marine applications. It introduced several common field bus, namely the CAN bus, PROFIBUS and LONWORKS bus, and contrasted its performance characteristics and application scope, and ultimately chosed the bus suitable for applications of the environmental of ship’s engine room. It analyzes, compares and chooses the LAN of this system and its communication protocol. And then expounded the principle of the engine room equipment for data collection.The thesis analyzed the hierarchical relationships of this system, and introduced the design principle of the system, including hardware principle and software principle, and the function of the system with the basic requirements, and alarm principle and main features of the system were described. According to the requirement of system function coded the measuring point according to the types of emergency alarm, builded and designed the database. The monitoring and alarming system of the ship’s engine room was developed by C#based on Visual Studio.NET 2008, and completed design and implementation of the whole system.The practical results show that:based on the relevant specifications and requirements of the ship industry, this paper presents the monitoring and alarming system of the ship’s engine room can meet the basic function and the requirements of the system, It has reference value to realize the digital and network management of ship engine room.
